Eursap’s Tip of the Week: Shortcuts to finding transactions in the SAP GUI
A quick search for the number of transactions in my SAP 1909 client shows 97,296 transactions which have an English description.
That’s a lot of knowledge! How on earth do you remember transaction codes? In the S/4HANA age of Fiori, lots of this has been streamlined by organising Fiori apps into groups and catalogues, but there are still transactions which are used and many SAP clients still use the SAP GUI.
There are a few tricks here to help you out. Let’s divide them up into SAP S/4HANA tricks and SAP ECC 6.0 tricks.
My favourite is transaction SDMO. This is also available in ECC 6.0 but its functionality is tiny compared to S/4HANA. Simply search for any transaction using the selection screen, but be aware that the Description is case sensitive, so my search below for “ledger” will not bring up transactions with “Ledger” in the description – better to include both descriptions in the multiple search facility.
Another SAP S/4HANA useful transaction is KTRAN – again, easy to use and very similar to SDMO. KTRAN is only available in SAP S/4HANA version 1709 and upwards.
SAP ECC 6.0
You are a bit more restricted with SAP ECC 6.0 but you can use the transaction SEARCH_SAP_MENU to search for transactions. See below.
For both SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC 6.0, a really useful table is TSTCT – here you can search for any transaction in the system via SE16 or SE16N, using the language. Case sensitivity applies here for the Text field.
I hope you find this useful! Stay tuned for another SAP Tip from Eursap next week!
