Eursap’s Tip of the Week: IDOC administration made easy – a useful SAP transaction

IDOCs are everywhere in SAP. They are used for integrations between functions within the application as well as EDI and ALE links with external business partners and systems.

All these integrations mean that administering the errors can be a headache – there are so many points of failure.

Traditional ECC6 versions relied upon separate transactions such as BD87, WE19 and WE02 to handle errors. However, SAP introduced a new transaction in later enhancement packs of ECC6 as well as S/4HANA – transaction WLF_IDOC.

This transaction is a central hub for all your analysis of IDOCs. From this cockpit, you can do the following:
1. Display the IDOC
2. Edit the IDOC
3. Reprocess the IDOC
4. Amend the view you see of the IDOC to different layouts
5. Send the IDOC to a specific RFC destination
6. Compare IDOCs to view differences (useful where one has passed and one has failed)
7. Change the control record
8. Copy IDOC and delete a segment
9. Change the status of the IDOC
