SAP Tips: Some easy SAP GUI tips
Did you know that 90% of SAP S/4HANA users still use the SAPGUI instead of Fiori? While this is likely to change as the years go by, there are still some really simple and useful tips for getting the most out of your SAP GUI experience.
Tip 1: Copying text
If you are using an old-style transaction which lays out the data in a text format, such as transaction SE16 (there are plenty of other examples), then it can seem awkward to copy some of the text to your clipboard. See below.
By pressing CTRL and Y at the same time, you are able to select multiple lines of text.
Tip 2: Insert or Override
When entering text into a field, you have the option to insert the text into existing text, or override. This is controlled really easily by the button at the bottom right of the screen – it will show INS for Insert or OVR for Override. Just click on it to change it.
Tip 3: Make your SAP GUI look like Fiori
Even though you are using the SAP GUI, it would be good to get used to the look and feel of a Fiori screen, even if you are not using the enhanced power of Fiori analytical apps.
To do this, open your options and go to Visual Design, as below.
By clicking the “Accept SAP Fiori visual theme” you will activate the Fiori look in your GUI. You will need to restart your SAP GUI for it to take effect.

Tip 4: Show the system name in the taskbar
We all work with multiple systems – dev, QA and production.
When you hover over your SAP logon pad, you will now see the system name (I have hidden mine next to where it says “SAP Easy Access”:
Tip 5: Show administrative data
This tip is for basis freshers. Some really useful information about the SAP GUI can be found by navigating in your home page as per the below screenshot. These settings include changing the logo, activating and deactivating the SAP Menu, as well as activating and deactivating user menus.
Remember, the future of user experience for SAP is Fiori, not the SAP GUI, so while these tips may be helpful, please see them as stop gaps only on your journey towards a Fiori user experience.
I hope you find this useful! Stay tuned for another SAP Tip from Eursap next month.
