Eursap's SAP Tips: A mini collection of tips for SAP

Eursap tips have been running for many years now and what we have noticed is that sometimes the best and most popular tips are the easiest and most straightforward ones.
So, we thought we would run a collection of mini tips to help you out!

Tip 1: Create a new session while busy with the hourglass

Here’s the scenario: you are running a report in foreground in the SAP GUI and it is taking a long time, and you have other work to do in the meantime. The hourglass is still showing on your screen and you are getting impatient. Never fear! Just click the icon at the top left of the screen to drop down the menu and select “New GUI Window”.

Voila! A new session appears, leaving the existing one to carry on running.

Tip 2: Stop long running transaction in the SAP GUI

When running a transaction, you may find it is just taking too long. Perhaps you didn’t add enough criteria to narrow the search sufficiently? You now want to abort the transaction, but the hourglass remains running. How do you stop this?

As the last tip, you can click the icon at the top left, but this time, select “Stop Transaction”.

Tip 3: Using your keyboard in SAP GUI fields like a boss

Using the mouse is great, but there are repetitive tasks in SAP where it is good to know simple keyboard shortcuts to speed things up. There are a lot of these, but one of the easiest is to use your backspace and arrow keys and enter key.

Press your backspace key in any input field to see your previously selected entries. From here, you can step through each entry by using the down arrow key and once you arrive at the entry you want to select, press enter. Whilst the list is displayed, if you want to remove an entry just arrow-key down to it and press delete.

Then if you need to jump tot the next field, just use your tab key.

Tip 4: shortcut to closing all SAP GUI windows

We’ve all had multiple SAP sessions open at any one time in the past and it is annoying when you want to log off all of them, to have to do them one at a time. There are two shortcuts to this.

Firstly, from your menu option, select System>Log off:

Secondly, you can add the command /nend into the transaction bar. If you are using your keyboard rather than your mouse, then use ctrl + / to go directly to your transaction bar.

Both these options will close all you SAP GUI windows.

Tip 5: Fiori – navigating to regularly used apps

Fiori has a nice view, structured in spaces, pages and sections, to navigate to your app of choice. However, if you are a regular user, you may have many, many spaces and pages and it can be tiresome to navigate your way around to find them.

There is a way around this: simply use the “Frequently used” and “Recently activities” menu option in Fiori to navigate direct to your most commonly used apps.
