S/4HANA 2023: Physical Inventory: Batch Verification using Radio Frequency
S/4HANA 2023: Physical Inventory: Batch Verification using Radio Frequency.
Synopsis: Prior to S/4HANA 2023 (FPS02), it was not possible to verify the batch in the RF-framework during the inventory counting process (Location specific or Product specific), although the verification profile has been customized to forcibly scan the Batch ID.
It was a business need for many customers to have a flexible switch either to scan the batch during physical inventory for batch-managed products. The issue was raised in the SAP Customer Influence ID.
Request ID: 282406: RF: No batch verification during inventory counting possible
Improvement Request Details - Customer Influence
Solution: With this feature, customers can now configure whether a warehouse worker needs to verify batches when performing physical inventory counting using a radio frequency (RF) device. SAP has released Note 3294052 - Physical Inventory: Batch Verification using Radio Frequency, which can be implemented from S/4HANA 1809 to S/4HANA 2023. From S/4HANA 2023 (FPS02), this note is already implemented, and by default, the system requires the warehouse worker to verify batches when using the counting RF transactions.
Effects on Customizing: Customers already on S/4HANA 2023 (FPS02) can easily control whether to scan the ‘Batch Field’ or ignore it using the ‘Verification Control Profile’ in RFUI.
For customers below S/4HANA, to use the ‘Batch Verification Profile’, they have to implement SAP Note 3294052 and manually add the key RF customizing steps.
The below RF manual configuration has been performed in S/4HANA 2022 as part of Note manual step process.
Customers have to perform RFUI addition of a new logical transaction: Extended Warehouse Management -> Mobile Data Entry -> Radio Frequency (RF) Framework -> Define Steps in Logical Transactions
Step 1: Select logical transaction "IVMCOU" and click "Define Validation Profile" on the left side. Add 3 entries as part of manual steps mentioned in SAP note
Step 2: In below RF logical transaction, ‘’ IVMCOU’’ add below entries in validation profile.
Step 3: In the below RF logical transaction, ‘‘IVCOUN’’, add the entries below in the validation profile.
Step 4: In the below RF logical transaction, ‘‘IVCOUN’’, add the entries below in the validation profile (for presentation profile **** & personalization profile **).
Step 5: In the below RF logical transaction, ‘‘IVAHPR’’, add the entries below in the validation profile (for presentation profile **** & personalization profile **).
Step 6: In the below RF logical transaction, ‘‘IVAHPR’’, add the entries below in the validation profile (for presentation profile **** & personalization profile **).
After completing all the logical transaction assignments in the validation profile, generate the HTML template for ITS mobile (in SE80) using the steps.
Once the note is implemented, the RF physical inventory counting screen is by default enabled to scan the ‘Batch Field’. Let's perform the test in the system.
In RF04, Ad Hoc Inventory Counting, perform bin-specific counting (HL). As in the example below, a handling unit is counted. Upon HU scan, the 'Batch Field' is enabled for scanning, which was by default missing before the note implementation. Using this new change, some industries like Pharma, Food, Life Sciences, etc., can leverage this new functionality where it is obligatory to scan the batch. Earlier, this was possible only with enhancement.
Perform the counting process; the flow of the scan moves from product to batch and then to quantity.
Batch Verification was not provided/supported in the standard system for RF mobile device functionality (in EWM). However, with the note 3294052 - Physical Inventory: Batch Verification using Radio Frequency, it is now very much possible to include in standard RF Counting transaction.
However, if a customer feels the above functionality of batch verification is too stringent and wants to bypass the extra batch verification scan, they can suppress the scan using standard configuration in the RF physical inventory counting process.
Customization Path:
SPRO: SCM Extended Warehouse Management -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Mobile Data Entry -> Verification Control: -> Define Warehouse Specific Verification -> Define Warehouse-Specific Verification Determination.
With these IMG activities, deactivate the newly introduced batch verification field by defining a new verification profile and using it in the verification determination.
After the above setup, the default SAP Note behavior of batch verification would be suppressed, and during RF physical inventory, the 'Batch Field' would be greyed out as shown below. It's required just to count the quantity.
Please implement one more note if the above verification control is not working.
3507497 - RF PI process might ignore the verification control.
All tests have been performed on S/4HANA 2022 Sandbox system.
