Eursap’s Tip of the Week: Setting up the enhanced search facility in SAP – Search as you type
In SAP, with minimum requirement of ABAP 7.4, service pack 05 and upwards, there is the option of enhanced searching.
What is enhanced searching? This is a very common method of searching, known as search-as-you-type. It offers a search engine type of functionality whereby as you key in data in a field, the database automatically searches as you type. This sounds like a HANA specific database feature, but actually this works with any database your SAP system is on. These options work in the SAP GUI as well as Fiori.
There are a couple of ways of activating (or deactivating) the enhanced search for users.
1. To activate or deactivate for all users in the system, go to transaction SDSH_CONFIG.
In change mode, select the check box “Use proposal search for input fields” to activate the enhanced search.
2. To activate or deactivate the enhanced search for your individual user, go to the Options menu path in your home screen, as below.
Under the folder “Interaction Design” and the option “Visualization 2”, there are three options for your enhanced search. Selecting the first will default to use the enhanced search, the second will only search on demand when using the keyboard shortcut, and the third will deactivate the enhanced search. Please see below.
And for all you ABAPers out there, you can add enhanced search to tables in the data dictionary by checking the field below against the elementary search help:
